Claire Stringer

Music in Focus

"Abstract qualities of music are generally more accepted than abstract qualities of art. People let the sounds, rhythms and harmonies take over for a more instinctive appreciation and experience. We can also allow the harmonies and rhythms of colour in art to take over and give us this pure kind of experience.

Art and music are languages which directly reach the senses and are able to obtain a range of interpretations and levels of appreciation. They cross the boundaries between cultures, as they are accessible forms of communication."

The first set of six paintings formed part of Claire's first solo exhibition, 'Music in Focus', in Glasgow in 1999. All works are in oil and enamel; the first three on wooden doors, the latter three on canvas.
